Rocketman & Fighting with My Family

This week we look at two bio pics, one focusing on Elton John, the other Paige, the WWE wrestler. How can we possibly pair these two film? Well…both are based on British stars…and both Elton John and Paige have incorporated a lot of theatrics into their performances…and…look…we’ve done like 200 of these shows now, and sometimes you just talk about two movies to make the episode longer, and forgo a natural segue. Everyone just be cool and accept this.

Enjoy!

Pokémon Detective Pikachu

I never played Pokémon, I never watched the show, I never bought the cards, I did catch a few that first week that the Pokémon Go was released, but that quickly faded from my routine. Maybe I was not the target demographic for this movie, but I’ve seen the trailer 4000 times, so I figured I might as well see what all the kids are talking about. I’m still not entirely sure what they are talking about, but we try and make sense of it anyway.

Enjoy!

Us

Is there any way that Jordan Peele’s second film could live up to the expectations everyone was placing on it? I think that was probably on the mind of a lot of people as they sat down to watch Us. While I don’t speak for every, FOR ME, he blew it out of the water. There is so much to unpack in a movie like this that we had to bring in help. So for your listening pleasure, we doubled the amount of McClains you normally get on the show. A special thanks to Meredith McClain for being on the show, and truly elevating the level of discourse.

Alita: Battle Angel

For 18 months we have been seeing the trailer for this movie. Alita kept getting pushed back and then pushed back again, which is usually a kiss of death for a movie. So color us all a little surprised that this movie endeared itself to us a little more than we thought it would. By no means is it a perfect film, but I feel like we get more riled up about the title of the film than anything in the film itself.

Now, Voyager

It is the week after the Oscars, and while many people will be posting episodes talking about who won and who shouldn’t have won, we are going to rise above all that and just get back to movies that we love. Just so you don’t feel like we are getting too far away from the award season hubbub, Kaitlin and I will be talking about an Oscar nominated film…from 1942. I don’t want to give away too much, but if you haven’t seen Now, Voyager yet, please get out there and do so. Seriously, we this episode will be here when you’re done. I wish I hadn’t waited so long to see this one.

Enjoy!

Aquaman & Bumblebee

These movies could have easily been the nail in the coffin of each their franchises, but against all odds they seemed to have actually revived them. I am just as surprised as anyone. I can give no higher praise to Aquaman than this, my mom watched it by herself and really liked it.

Worst of 2018

It is negative degrees outside this morning, but nothing gets us fired up and the blood pumping like talking about movies that we hate. There is plenty of yelling in this episode, and some of it even comes from Roy, so you know those have to be bad movies. What were least favorite films of 2018?

Enjoy!

Franchises

This week we discuss franchises. We talk about which franchises need to go the way of the dodo, and which ones are poised to make a comeback. We should apologize for a couple of things right out of the gate. First, we are really slap happy in this one, and that might explain why we make so many terrible puns. Second, this episode was actually recorded at the end of May in 2018, so some of the jokes and thoughts are not as timely as they were then, but it may actually make the show more entertaining.

Enjoy!

Bohemian Rhapsody & Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

I know I always feel a little down after the holidays, like there just isn’t much to look forward to for awhile, but fear not, because we are still cranking out shows. Maybe you’re going to start working out more in the new year, and you need a podcast to listen to while you sweat away on a treadmill somewhere. We are the perfect show for just such a thing. Anyway, this week we talk about a couple of movies we saw before we went headfirst into Christmas movie, Bohemian Rhapsody and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. I wish that we had liked both of these movies more than we did, but you know…2018.

Enjoy!

Birthday Special!

To celebrate Drew's 40th birthday, the other fellas kidnapped, and recorded several shows at Two Cities Pizza Company in Mason, OH. Instead of a regular episode, this week you will get the birthday special. Rather than talk about one movie, we talk about Oscar facts, movie lists, and movie trivia. Some of that is related to the birthday celebration, and some of it is just weird information. We had a blast recording this, we hope you have fun listening.

Enjoy!
