Madame Web and Oscar Bowl Sunday XII

You may have heard rumblings on the internet that Madame Web is not worth your time. And while this movie isn’t very good, there is still a case to be made that it is worth watching, and some of us here at COtR are willing to plead that case. We don’t want you to think that all we do is talk about bad movies, so Roy is also here to give you his recap of “Oscar Bowl Sunday”. Basically, you get two episodes in one this week. What a treat!!

The Marvels

Today is Sean’s birthday! To celebrate, here is our episode on The Marvels. This was the lowest opening movie in the MCU, yet most people seem to agree that it was actually pretty good. Are we “most people”? Well I guess you’ll have to listen to find out. And If you haven’t yet, wish Sean a happy 42!

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3

The time may finally be upon us where we are just getting a little too exhausted by all the comic book movies. Is it that it is all too much, or has the quality of the content just been getting worse and worse. Could be a little but of column A and a bit of column B. Still, that doesn’t mean we aren’t going to watch what comes out and record about it for you, our dear dear friends.

Enjoy!

Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania

2022 was kind of a rough year for comic book movies with several of them showing up on our “Worst of" lists. Can this trend be turned around this year? If Marvels first film of the year, Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania, is any indication, then we still can’t answer this question. There are plenty of things to like in the MCU’s latest go, but just as many things seems to come up short. In that way it’s a lot like this podcast.

Thor: Love and Thunder

The MCU machine continues to roll on, and so do our episodes about it. This week we discuss Thor: Love and Thunder. Was Taika able to catch lighting in bottle for the second time? Is this the MCU movie that finally makes us feel some “super hero fatigue”? This movie really sparks a lot of conversations, so let’s get into it.

Enjoy!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

The multiverse is everywhere right now, and much of that popularity is thanks to the MCU. The latest trip in this mind bending direction is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This movie marks the return of Sam Raimi to the comic book craze that he helped to create twenty years ago. Does he still have what it takes to make something memorable in a genre that, some feel, is repetitive? Can Doctor Strange take on the new mantle as a leader of the MCU? Can we survive an episode without Ryan and Roy? Maybe you should listen to find out.

Marvel 2021

Marvel managed to release 4 movies and 5 television shows in 2021, and while were have done shows on a couple of the titles they released, we’ve decided to go ahead and dedicate a whole episode recapping just what all was added to the MCU last year. Yes, there were something things that we loved and some that we didn’t, but even the worst thing they made last year is still better than a lot of what’s out there.

So sit back as we wade out into very familiar waters, as we once again talk Marvel.

Black Widow

This week we were finally able to watch a new MCU movie…IN THE THEATER! We were also able to record this episode together, which also caused a few audio problems, so if it seemed a little echoey, that’s why. But we hoped that they joy we had sitting around a table together was enough to buy some good will, and we promise to work on the audio more in the future.

WandaVision

This week we are giving are general thoughts about WandaVision. I don’t know why you would listen if you haven’t seen the show, but it is very spoiler heavy as we talk about how this influences the MCU, and where the character will go from here. We also make fun of the people who think they know all the answers as soon as the first episode aired, only to end up with egg on their face. So sit back and relax as we once again dip our toes into the cool waters of the MCU.

Ranking Spider-Man

This week we rank all the Spider-Man…Spider-Men…Spider-Folks? Well I am not really sure of the plural just yet, but we look at all films with spider bitten heroes and rank them from worst to best. We also rank the actors who have taken on the role. I know that people will disagree with us, because I have already had people tell me they disagree with us, and the show isn’t even up yet. That’s okay, we don’t all have to be on the same page on this one. The debate is what’s fun about this kind of thing.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

As long as there are comic book movies, we will continue to do episodes about them. Would it be nice to talk about other movies? Of course, but we give the fans what they want, and what they want is to hear us talk about the new Spider-Man…I guess…who really knows. What did you think of the newest feature starring the famed web-crawler?

Our Favorite MCU Moments

When we finished recording our Avengers: Endgame episode, we decided that we wanted to talk about some of our favor Marvel moments through the years. Some of them are scene that we all love, a few were kind of a surprise. These are all moments from before Endgame, so if you haven’t seen it yet, nothing will be spoiled for you. But seriously, if you haven’t seen the new Avengers, please stop what you’re doing and go now!

Casting the New MCU

With Disney officially closing the deal to acquire Fox just last, we thought it would be fun to discuss how the Marvel Cinematic Universe will look now, and how we would like to see them cast many of the big characters that will be eventually joining the team. If anyone know Kevin Feige, please pass this information along, because I think we’ve really got some good ideas here.

Ant-Man & The Wasp

Another month, another Marvel movie. I know that it feels like we go to the Marvel well too many times, but they keep making movies, so we will keep sharing our opinion. And hey, after 10 years and 20 movies, they finally have a female character in the title! We also take a few minutes to discuss the latest Avengers movie again, since Ryan waited so long to see it.

Avengers: Infinity War

I am sure there is no shortage of podcast episodes where nerds in basements are talking about this particular movie. Will our episode bring anything different to the table? Maybe not, but after 10 years and 18 movies in the MCU before it, we pretty much had to talk about this epic crossover event. By this point, I am pretty sure that almost everyone in the known universe has made it out to see this movie, but if you haven't, go see it before listening to this very spoiler heavy episode.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Avengers: Infinity War is right around the corner. Before the culmination of 10 years of world building comes to fruition, we thought that we would rank the existing MCU. This list is based on  our average ranking of each film. It has nothing to do with what critic's thoughts, or how much money they made, but simply about our own enjoyment of the movies. Except for Thor: Dark World, no one enjoyed that.

Thor: Ragnarok

Six years ago, Ryan and I did an episode of Coming Off the Reels where we discussed Thor and Hobo with a Shotgun. At the end of the show, I think we both agreed that Thor was the lesser of those films. Six years, and many Marvel films later, we are discussing the latest MCU offering, Thor: Ragnarok. Without giving away too much, I will tell you that we enjoyed it more than the first Thor film, but perhaps still shy of Hobo with a Shotgun

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Three years ago, Ryan and I were both a little underwhelmed by the first entry into the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Three years later, and one of Marvel's most successful properties couldn't care less what a few middle aged men in middle America think about the juggernaut they've created. Still, we have plenty to say, good and bad, and since we have all this recording equipment, we might as well make a show.
