Due to an awful case of the flu, we have been unable to to record for awhile. I didn’t want to have two weeks go by without posting a show, so here is our episode from a couple of years ago about The Last Jedi. Merry Christmas! We know that some of you are traveling for the holidays, and maybe you want to listen to some nerds talk about Christmas movies while you wait for your luggage at the airport. Don't worry, we got you. This week we continue with our run of holiday cheer as we discuss the Disney+ original, Noelle, along with Netflix originals Let it Snow and Santa Girl. These movies just go to show you that Hallmark isn’t the only game in town when it comes to completely cheesy, shot in 2 weeks, barely a movie, entertainment.

It’s the season for giving, so we are giving you even more Hallmark Christmas movies. Honestly, I feel like we could do a whole separate podcast where we just watch these all year round. If 2020 is anything like 2019, we may have to do that just to feel some kind of joy in our lives. Anyway… this week we talk about Broadcasting Christmas, Write Before Christmas, and Merry & Bright. Aren’t those just the most compelling titles you’ve ever seen? It would be easy to act all Grinchy towards these movies, but we are suckers for this kind of sap, so they get a lot of love from us.

This year we ended up watching enough Hallmark films that we actually recorded two episodes on the subject. On this week’s episode, we discuss Christmas Town, Christmas Camp, and Christmas in Rome. I love that there is never any mystery to a Hallmark movie, not event the title. After the kind of year 2019 has been, maybe we can all take comfort in that level of simplicity.

What better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than with a whole episode dedicated to the Final Destination franchise. So instead of arguing with your racist uncle about how America was never that great, how about you pop in your headphones, and listen to us try and figure out why the craftsmanship in the Final Destination universe is so shoddy. Seriously…it is a whole world of poorly built IKEA furniture, except everything is able to kill you…quite easily.

I guess Roy will be happy that this isn’t called Zombieland 2, but that doesn’t mean that this sequel to the 2009 film was wanted or needed. This week we breakdown the goods and bads of this low stakes horror/comedy, and how they could have maybe made it a little better. This week we talk about the 2019 film, Ma. That seems so straight forward. The reality of the situation is that we spend half the episode trying to talk about anything else because, spoiler, we weren’t really impressed with this “horror” film. Still, I think we managed to salvage the episode and make something that is at least passably entertaining…unlike the movie, Ma. See what I did there?

Well that really snuck up on us. Hard to believe that we have now recorded 200 of these things. Sure, they aren’t all great, and maybe we had some long gaps in production for awhile, and maybe some of those early episodes were very difficult to listen to, but here we, chugging along. To celebrate this milestone, we decided to compile our “Top 10” lists from 2010-present, roughly the same amount of time we’ve been making this show. We hope that you enjoy this episode, and continue listening as we move along towards 300.

When I used to work in a video store, I remember that there would be full sections of one particular title, if it was a big enough movie. There was also a row full of single title films, and this is usually where your low budget horror films would end up. Netflix, as a way of replacing video stores, seems to be making both types of movies. I know that you might see that In the Tall Grass is a horror movie based on a Stephen King story, and think that this would have been the kind of movie that gets a whole section at the video store, but I promise you, this is a “single title” film all the way. I hope you like movies that only take place in a field.

After our last episode, we thought maybe we should go with a more “traditional” horror film. That said, It: Chapter 2 still wants to go toe-to-toe with Midsommar in total runtime…so you know…that’s cool. While this sequel to the smash hit from 2017 may not be as good as its predecessor, there are still plenty of good things to talk about…but damn, it is really long. And how did they do such a great job of casting some people…and really drop the ball with other choices?

This week we discuss the latest film from Danny Boyle, Yesterday. I know that this movie was released to mixed reviews across the board. Some people who love the Beatles felt like it did them a disservice. Some people who don’t like The Beatles just didn’t care for the premise in general. Still others felt the whole thing was a little too schmaltzy. But hey, Ed Sheeran turned out to be pretty funny, and in general, we at COTR like a little schmaltz.

So I promise that we set out to record an episode on the the recent comedy, Good Boys, but we got sidetracked a little. So now in this Good Boys episode you will also hear us talk about 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, The Art of Racing in the Rain, the trailers for the new Star Wars film and Last Christmas, and we also try to figure out why Booksmart didn’t make more money. Look at us, really branching out and trying new things. Instead of just reviewing what feels like an endless amount of superhero movies, we’ve decided to review a television show…about superheroes. That’s as much change as I can handle all at once, so please be patient. This week we take a look at Amazon’s bleak take on Justice League/The Avengers with their original series, The Boys. Does it amount to more than just the gimmick of flipping the script on many beloved characters? Guess you’ll just have to listen to find out.
