Okay, out of the gate, we have some problems with the title. We understand why they felt the need to make it so wordy, but you know Roy, and he really get particular when it comes to movie titles. How did we feel about the 9th movie in the F&F universe? I guess we could just tell you, but then maybe you would listen to us ramble on for an hour about how ridiculous this movie was. Here we are again, in the endless circle of Disney films. This time we are visiting the latest “live action” remake of a classic Disney cartoon, The Lion King. Much like the other examples of Disney reimagining their films, this one was met with pretty divisive reviews. Much like the Aladdin remake, The Lion King seems to be resistant to any negative comments that reviewers may have. How do you think we landed on this one? Guess you’ll just have to listen to find out…because this is a podcast…that’s kind of how this works.
This week we rank all the Spider-Man…Spider-Men…Spider-Folks? Well I am not really sure of the plural just yet, but we look at all films with spider bitten heroes and rank them from worst to best. We also rank the actors who have taken on the role. I know that people will disagree with us, because I have already had people tell me they disagree with us, and the show isn’t even up yet. That’s okay, we don’t all have to be on the same page on this one. The debate is what’s fun about this kind of thing.

Yeah, that’s right, we are pairing the new Netflix comedy Always Be My Maybe and the ultra-violent Superman knockoff, Brightburn. Do they go together at all? No. Did we find a way to make bridge the difference to make a good pairing? No. But did we at least give it all we had in the hopes that you would enjoy this weird duo?Also no. Kidding, kidding…we always give you 110%.

This week we look at two bio pics, one focusing on Elton John, the other Paige, the WWE wrestler. How can we possibly pair these two film? Well…both are based on British stars…and both Elton John and Paige have incorporated a lot of theatrics into their performances…and…look…we’ve done like 200 of these shows now, and sometimes you just talk about two movies to make the episode longer, and forgo a natural segue. Everyone just be cool and accept this.

The idea that people are tired of sequels is not a new one. For years every time something fails, people are so quick to say that Hollywood doesn’t make anything new anymore, and that on reboots and sequels get any screens at the theater. I am not here to argue about that, that could probably be the subject of several other episodes. But I think that maybe people aren’t tired of sequels, they are just tired of bad movies. I never played Pokémon, I never watched the show, I never bought the cards, I did catch a few that first week that the Pokémon Go was released, but that quickly faded from my routine. Maybe I was not the target demographic for this movie, but I’ve seen the trailer 4000 times, so I figured I might as well see what all the kids are talking about. I’m still not entirely sure what they are talking about, but we try and make sense of it anyway.

Obviously this is the most poorly named John Wick movie, but how did the movie itself stack up against its predecessors? The critics loved it, it made more money than the other two, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t find a few minor things to latch on to, and talk endlessly about. I’m just saying…there are some really stupid parts in this outing. Like… way more stupid than last time.

There are a lot of opinions about Disney making live action remakes of their animated classics. So far, the results have been a mixed bag, and their newest release, Aladdin, seems to have divided audiences once again. Though more likely, this movie has divided audiences from critics. I know that we don’t normally tell you how we feel about a movie in these little blurbs, but you should run, not walk, to see Booksmart. I know that there are a lot of big tentpole films out right now, and maybe a high school comedy doesn’t sound like much competition, but this directorial debut from OIivia Wilde manages to exceed many of the limitations that plague this genre of films. We give our opinions without going too deep into the movie, so it is pretty spoiler free. We fill the rest of the time discussing our favorite “graduation” themed movies, and there are some good ones.
