Netflix Romantic Comedies

This week we take a look at several of the new Netflix romantic comedies. We did an episode many months ago where we asked what happened to this disappearing category of movies, and apparently we just needed to be patient to find out the answer. While we are thrilled that this genre is still relevant, the results are…a little bit mixed. I would like to go ahead and apologize for how poorly we explain some of these plots, some nights you just can’t find the thread to save your life. So sit back and relax as we fumble our way through Set It Up, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, and Sierra Burgess is a Loser.

Enjoy!

Incredibles 2 & Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

The summer is over, but we refuse to give up the ghost just yet. Instead, we go back and revisit two of the bigger movies from this summer, Incredibles 2 and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. We have…a lot of feelings about both of these titles. We also have a special guest sitting in on this episode, even though he hasn’t seen either of these movies. Our guest, Dan, pitches some great ideas on how to make both of these franchises better, and I can’t say that I disagree with any of his suggestions.

Enjoy!

Director Spotlight - Michael Bay

In the last of the three shows we recorded at Two Cities Pizza Company, we did a director spotlight for Michael Bay. We briefly go over his body of work, and talk about the good, bad, and sometimes unwatchable films in his filmography. This isn’t an entire episode bashing everything this director has created. In fact the general feelings toward him seems to be all over the spectrum. So sit back, blow something up, and listen to this week’s episode.

Enjoy!

Two Cities Special - Best of New York & Chicago

This was another show that we recorded at Two Cities Pizza Company. In honor of one of our favorite places to dine, we dedicated the theme of this episode to them by choosing our favorite movies set in these two amazing cities. I know that there are plenty of movies that we don’t mention (sorry Escape from New York), so please feel free to share your favorite movies set in the Big Apple or the Windy City.

Enjoy!

Birthday Special!

To celebrate Drew's 40th birthday, the other fellas kidnapped, and recorded several shows at Two Cities Pizza Company in Mason, OH. Instead of a regular episode, this week you will get the birthday special. Rather than talk about one movie, we talk about Oscar facts, movie lists, and movie trivia. Some of that is related to the birthday celebration, and some of it is just weird information. We had a blast recording this, we hope you have fun listening.

Enjoy!

MoviePass!

This was originally going to be just a small bonus episode about MoviePass and the things that we liked and didn't like about the system. Then the wheels started coming off of the much beloved ticketing program, so our conversation became a lot longer. Now we have a full episode all about the good, bad, and ugly sides of MoviePass. Please feel free to send us your stories, because I know there are a lot.

Enjoy!

Won't You Be My Neighbor & Three Identical Strangers

You know folks, we don't just watch crappy action movies where The Rock faces off against a giant building. Sometimes truth is more compelling and certainly stranger than anything we can make up. This week we discuss two recent documentaries,  Won't You Be My Neighbor, the story of Fred Rogers, and Three Identical Strangers, the tale of triplets who were separated at birth and then found each other later in life. With plenty of laughter, tears and suspense in these two films, there's something for everyone.

Enjoy!

Coming Soon...

We take a look at some of the movies you've been seeing trailers for over and over and over again. Is it naive to be cautiously optimist about all of these movies? Maybe, but I will never apologize for wanting every movie to be good. Maybe not Aquaman.

Enjoy!

Starr Carter is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black, neighborhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white, prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer.

Eighth Grade

We are aware that men in their 30s would not relate to the film Eight Grade as much as other people (though everyone should go see this movie), so we brought it one of the smartest people we know, Kaitlin Conner, to give us her opinion of this new film from Bo Burnham. I want to apologize again for speaking over her at the beginning and end, I promise I was just trying to give her a grand introduction.

Enjoy!

Gangster Movies

This is definitely one of the genres where we are at a loss. However, someone requested this episode, so we did our best to try and watch some of the more notable films from this particular category. Was it worth the hours and hours and hours of of voiceovers that we had to endure just to make this episode? That is up to you. I will say, it did give us a chance to introduce Roy to the Michael Bolton/Lonely Islands song, so maybe it was worth it.

Enjoy!

Where are the Romantic Comedies?

We often find ourselves talking about random movie topics before or after our regular recordings. It was during one of these chats that we started talking about romantic comedies, and how there don't seem to be as many of them anymore. We decided to make a bonus episode where a few of us try to unravel the mystery of this missing genre.

Enjoy!

Ant-Man & The Wasp

Another month, another Marvel movie. I know that it feels like we go to the Marvel well too many times, but they keep making movies, so we will keep sharing our opinion. And hey, after 10 years and 20 movies, they finally have a female character in the title! We also take a few minutes to discuss the latest Avengers movie again, since Ryan waited so long to see it.

Enjoy!

Skyscraper

Dwayne Johnson used to fight people, but this year we've seen mere people are no longer worthy of his time. A few months ago we watched has he went toe-to-toe-to-claw-to-paw with a bevy of mutated creatures in Rampage, but apparently that was still too little of a challenge. Now Dwayne Johnson is facing off with a 220-story building, that's on fire and full of terrorists. Get your popcorn ready as we discuss the summer action flick, Skyscraper.

Stephen King

This week we finish our Kinner triple header with a deep dive into films from the mind of Stephen King.  Love them or hate them, these movies are worth discussing!  We cover everything from Carrie (the good), to The Dark Tower (the bad) and Sleepwalkers (the hilarious!!).  It's a fun conversation and we hope you enjoy!

Rewind: 1999

1999...what a great year for movies. We could do another episode right now and still forget to mention so many of the great films from that year. Luckily, in this episode, we did remember to talk about Chill Factor, since that is the only movie that really matters. Please let us know what your favorites from this year were.

Enjoy!
